Position Statement from the Career Management Quality Alliance published in August 2017

The Career Management Quality Alliance represents four key organisations that share a commitment to the provision of high quality career management support services for young people and adults in England. Those organisations are: Assessment Services Ltd;the CareerDevelopment Institute (CDI); Careers England; and
the Quality in Careers Consortium.

The statement sets out the key elements that Alliance propose should be included in a strategy to achieve the overall aims. The Alliance are ready to work with the Government to agree the final strategy and to support its effective implementation.


Career Development Institute Focus on Work Life Balance and Mental Health

CDIGiven August is usually the time most people relax and take time off work the Career Development Institute is this month focusing on work life balance and mental health issues.

All the resources mentioned, and many more, are also accessible with direct links from the CPD Resources area of the Members’ Area of the CDI website. Resources are arranged according to the National Occupational Standards: Career Development (NOS:CD).

Resources related to work-life balance are in NOS:CD05 and 09. Remember too that the CDI’s Code of Ethics requires that ‘Members have a duty of care to themselves, both in terms of their personal integrity, personal safety and their capacity to practise in order to provide an effective service to clients.’

Francesca Burrows served on tours in Iraq and Afghanistan during 12 years of service with the Army. She has now joined COTW Training, a multi-award winning management and leadership development company based in Neath, South Wales, as a training executive delivering first aid and leadership qualifications.

On a daily basis we are seeing a clear shift in punishment apportioned for breaches of health and safety legislation as a direct result of the new sentencing guidelines.

On 1 February 2016, the new sentencing guidelines were launched in the United Kingdom for those who commit health and safety offences. They direct the courts to follow a structured approach, examining culpability, the seriousness of harm imposed and the likelihood of harm. There are various levels which reflect the scale within each category.

Of great significance to employers is that the process thereafter matches the results against turnover.
