Duke of Edinburgh Supporters Netwalking Day with Call of the Wild

Duke of Edinburgh supporters netwalking dayLast week, we had the privilege of hosting a Duke of Edinburgh supporters netwalking day here in South Wales. The day brought together DofE supporters, business leaders, and partners for a unique mix of inspiration, connection, and time in nature.

The morning began with an update from Ian Gwilym, Senior Relationships Manager at The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Wales, who shared exciting developments and opportunities within the DofE. We then heard a moving story from a local DofE Awardee on his personal journey to achieving Gold — a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact of the award.

Our own Dr Barrie Kennard, Head of Professional Practice at Call of the Wild, followed with a thought-provoking session on The 21st Century Leader. Looking back at how far leadership has evolved – and how much work still lies ahead.

After lunch, we donned boots and jackets for the outdoors and set off on a netwalk to the Bat Cave at Henrhyd Falls. Joining us was none other than Wales rugby legend Alun Wyn Jones, who shared reflections on his own journey, and life beyond the pitch. The walk was the perfect chance for participants, many of whom had never met before, to connect in a more natural and relaxed way, exchanging experiences and contact details as we explored the breathtaking scenery.

The feedback spoke for itself:

  • “A huge thanks to you all for a fantastic day on Friday. Couldn’t have gone any better and the guests, many of whom we’d not met before, loved it!” – Ian Gwilym, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Wales
  • “What. A. Day. Surrounded by great people, powerful stories, and unforgettable moments. Huge thanks to Call of the Wild for hosting us with such passion and professionalism.” – Participant

These netwalking days are about more than getting away from the desk. They create space to connect in a comfortable, authentic way – while reaping the benefits of fresh air, movement, and the stunning Welsh landscape.

We’re proud to have partnered with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Wales for such a memorable day and to support their mission of empowering young people to achieve their potential.
